Diversity. A movement you can see in several areas. It‘s thematized in politics, in companies, in society, in different professions, or even in TV shows. Recruitment isn‘t an exception.
This text is an attempt to give you a holistic insight into the issue and to highlight the role of recruitment in particular. It’s a complex topic and I hope you’ll find new food for your thoughts.
What is diversity in a workplace about?
It’s pretty easy. Diversity is the opposite of a monoculture.
A diverse culture gives all people the chance for authenticity without a loss of respect. It is the endeavor of equality for everyone. That said, ethnicity, gender or sex, religion, personality, and other criteria shouldn’t determine whether you’re suitable for a job, company, or team.
In some countries, you find even specific laws dealing with that matter. As, for instance, in Germany the AGG (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz).
Often, you will even notice a statement against discrimination at the end of some job descriptions. Saying that all applicants will be assessed in an equal way.
Still, those regulations or statements don’t prevent discrimination from happening every day.
